I love to journal because it helps me understand what I'm thinking and feeling.....it also helps clear the clutter from my brain, I thought it may be helpful if I shared some of the thoughts that go on in my brain.
5/20/2014 The M&M Battle
Mind full or Mindful
The battle to stay mindful instead of allowing my mind to get full with trivial, energy zapping nonsense. The kind of stuff that wakes me up at 3:30 in the morning. The words "Rise Above" being whispered in my ear....rise above the chaos, the nonsense. Just be, let go....quiet your mind. Relax, breathe......the mind gets a little bit of rest, feels good.....then the mind begins to fill again, mind full is beating the mindful......the battle continues.......

What Mindfulness means to me....... Being aware of what is going on inside of me....living in the moment....just being....accepting things as they are...PEACE....relaxing.....chillaxin'....being fearless....in sync......time with God.....healing......comfort.....focusing on me....quieting my mind....calming......understanding.....taking the time to breathe......just be...observing....looking from the outside in......being present.......letting go!

Barb, I enjoyed your journal entries. I'd like to comment on your "looking from the outside in" It's said that Lincoln could do this, and not that I compare myself with him, I've tried applying it to Mindfulness.
When I'm performing critical tasks that certainly require Mindfulness(driving, operating machinery, etc.) I "observe" my actions externally as if I'm watching myself as a judge & critic. I've even imagined my Mother looking over my shoulder from Heaven. This mental trick actually helps me concentrate and perform each step to the best of my ability even though it may sound pretty silly.
... And its nice to have at least one rational me on board :-)

I watched this five year old girl at the hair cutting shop yesterday. She was just moving about the shop. Kind of getting in people's way. Messing with her younger brother. Climbing on the empty chairs. Looking in cupboards and cubby holes. As she moved about she was expressive. Sort of talking to herself. Her face was theatrically animated. Her aliveness was vivid. I sort of want to be more like her.
What separates me from my thinking mind is awareness of my body. It could be that I feel myself breathing. It could be that I feel myself moving. I think about my movement sort of like a dancer does in that I try to feel the grace and balance and alignment of my movement when walking, for example, when walking up or down stairs, but also as I navigate the kitchen and when cooking. For me, I make my awareness of my movement the place where I exist. And try to feel very alive there. My way of entering the moment with aliveness.

I read an article based upon stress research. Stress may prod activity, motion, busyness, but we humans are much more creative and productive when stress (i.e. cortisol) is under control and the mind is free to wonder without bumping into barriers.

Red spotted newt having spent his youth hidden in leaf matting
Now floats like pondish crocodile in placid vulnerablity.

I'm still working on what mindfulness means to me. I have used it to calm myself down and get back to sleep at night. During most of my waking time, though, I don't think much about it. Maybe I should. I do have a question. What do all of you think about having a cocktail (or two) and the concept of mindfulness. Are they incompatible? It's a habit I enjoy with my husband around dinner time, but I'm questioning its role or fit with mindfulness. what do you all of you think?

As a New Member you have access to "Profile" at the top of the Forum page. If you go to the "Help Desk for Using Forum" from "General Board" you will find four-part instructions - specifically Section three for creating an avatar. After clicking "Profile" use "Edit Profile" to design a new avatar from "Avatar Maker" or you may create a link to a picture or photo on your computer. Image may not be larger than 1 MB.
If you have any questions after trying this, post your the question on the "Help Desk for Using Forum" topic, called a Thread and I will respond.
